The delights of the Mostly Mozart Festival continue with Symphony No. 39, which captures the brilliance of Mozart in his finest hour. Haydn's resplendent Trumpet Concerto is featured in a rare performance of this glorious masterwork whose flourishes and triumphant fanfares are guaranteed to thrill one and all.
A narrative theatre adaptation of Steven Goldsberry's 'Maui the Demigod: An Epic Novel of Mythical Hawai`i,' Balfantz's play was first produced by Kumu Kahua in 1991 and toured the islands in 1992. The play incorporates hula, chant and storytelling in bringing the many myths of Maui to the stage -- including his miraculous birth, prank-filled childhood, and heroic deeds of manhood such as slowing down the pace of the sun and pulling an island from the depths of the sea.

locally and soon moved to Los Angeles, signing with Capricorn Records in
1991. 311 then translated their regional success into national
recognition with several key albums, including 1992's Music, 1993's
Grassroots, and 1995's eponymous 311 (aka The Blue Album), the latter of
which reached number 12 on the album chart, sold three million copies in
the U.S., and sported the hit tracks "All Mixed Up" and "Down."
In 1996, following a nonstop year of touring in support of 311, the band
released Enlarged to Show Detail, a home video of live performances
taken from amphitheater shows in Kansas City and Denver. Transistor, a
double album of new songs sandwiched onto one CD, arrived one year later
and prompted the group's most ambitious tour yet. The album soon
achieved platinum status, and the resulting show dates provided ample
material for Live, which was released in 1998 and captured the band's
strength in concert. A year later, 311 returned with Soundsystem before
jumping to the Volcano label for the release of From Chaos, which
appeared in summer 2001. Evolver appeared two years later; unlike its
predecessors, however, the album failed to go gold or platinum.
By now, 311 had been together over ten years, and the band celebrated
its decade-plus existence with the Greatest Hits compilation. Released
in July 2004, the album included all of 311's hit singles, several new
tracks, and the band's reggae-tinged cover of the Cure's "Love Song,"
which had originally appeared on the soundtrack to the Adam Sandler film
50 First Dates. 311 presented new material in August 2005 with the Don't
Tread on Me LP, followed by an additional round of touring. Upon its
completion, the road-weary musicians took a hiatus, their first break in
nearly ten years. 311 soon returned to the studio, however, this time
partnering with mega-producer Bob Rock. Heralded by frontman Nick Hexum
as "the heaviest 311 has ever been," the resulting Uplifter arrived in

Brand New was conceived in a basement in Merrick,NY where drummer, Brian
Lane, and frontman, Jesse Lacey began their first informal rehearsals.
It didn't take long for them to realize that they had some pretty solid
songs between them^?and that people needed to hear them.
The pair quickly recruited long time friend Garrett Tierney, as well as
Vin Accardi, to play bass and guitar, respectively. The group was
complete and soon set about recording their first demo, a four-song CD
that the band recorded, produced and released by themselves. A rigorous
writing, practice and touring schedule helped the band quickly climb the
ranks of the underground Long Island scene where they were born. Soon
they were playing shows with bands like Midtown, New Found Glory, Good
Charlotte, and Glassjaw.
With some classic influences like The Cars, Squeeze, and The Beach Boys
as well as more contemporary artists like Lifetime, Weezer and The Foo
Fighters, Brand New has built an energetic, more pop-than-punk sound.
Their live show is loud and exciting and it's impossible to stand still
when these guys are playing. The harmonies are too clever, the hooks are
too catchy and everybody is singing along. The tunes are simple and
strong, obvious teenage anthems about obvious teenage hurt. Still, watch
them play and you won't see the grins leave their faces. They love what
they do and they do it well.

On August 1, 1938, to express their solidarity with striking workers in Honolulu, more than 200 Big Island men and women belonging to different labor unions attempted peacefully to demonstrate against the arrival of a ship from Oahu. They were met by a force of over 70 police officers who tear-gassed, hosed and fired riot guns into the crowd. Fifty of the demonstrators were hospitalized. Based in part on research from labor historian William J. Puette's book 'The Hilo Massacre: Hawaii's Bloody Monday,' Tremaine Tamayose's teleplay, infuses historical events with personal stories of the workers, police and politicians.
